Charles Darwin University special consideration

CDU's evidence, from a doctor who actually assesses you.

CDU asks for relevant supporting evidence such as a medical certificate, a letter from an employer, a statutory declaration or an accident report, and does not address telehealth or the modality of the consultation.

Launching 19 September

Start a CDU consult opens on 19 September. We are finishing the doctor-completed forms for every university. Bookmark this page and come back then.

What CDU asks for

What your CDU medical certificate must state.

CDU has no practitioner section. The certificate carries the doctor's opinion, so what it states is what decides the outcome.

  1. 01The date you were seen and the period the condition affected you
  2. 02That the circumstances affected your performance in the assessment or examination
  3. 03The practitioner's name, AHPRA registration and practice details
  4. 04A signature and the date of issue

What the same evidence is for

One consultation, three CDU outcomes.

Students search for these by name. CDU treats them as one process with different outcomes.

1

CDU assessment extension

An extension gives you more time on an assessment task affected by short-term circumstances outside your control. CDU asks you to speak with your lecturer first, then lodge the HE Assessment Extension Special Consideration request within three working days after the due date, with evidence attached.

2

CDU special consideration for an examination

This is CDU's equity measure where short-term or unforeseen circumstances affected your performance in an examination. Requests go in writing via eForms to the Examinations and Timetabling Team within five calendar days after the scheduled exam. The certificate must cover the exam date.

3

CDU deferred examination

Where illness stops you sitting the exam at all rather than affecting your performance in it, the outcome sought is a deferred sit. The same supporting evidence applies, and it needs to show you were unfit on the scheduled exam day.

CDU questions

Asked the way students search them.

Answers reflect CDU's published policy on 16 Sept 2026. CDU decides what it accepts.

How do I apply for CDU special consideration?

Lodge the request via CDU eForms with supporting evidence attached. For an examination, it goes to the Examinations and Timetabling Team within five calendar days after the scheduled exam. For an assessment extension, speak with your lecturer first and lodge within three working days of the due date.

Does CDU accept online medical certificates?

CDU's guidance does not address telehealth or modality. It asks for relevant supporting evidence such as a medical certificate. If your circumstances are unusual, ask the Examinations and Timetabling Team before you rely on a particular certificate.

What is the CDU special consideration deadline?

Five calendar days after the scheduled examination for exam-related requests. Assessment extension requests go in within three working days after the due date. Lodging late means explaining the delay as well.

How long does CDU take to decide special consideration?

CDU states that students receive an outcome in writing within three working days of submission. You may be asked to clarify information or provide additional evidence before the decision is made.

What evidence does CDU accept?

A medical certificate, a letter from an employer, a statutory declaration or a copy of an accident report, depending on the circumstances. The evidence must be relevant to the short-term or unforeseen circumstances you are relying on.
