VU's short extensions and special consideration page does not address consultation modality. It asks your treating professional to complete the relevant section of the Treating Professional Supporting Document or to supply a medical certificate, without stating how the consultation must occur.

What VU asks for

A short extension buys up to three days on a four week block, five days on an eight week block or VU Online course, and ten days for VET and TAFE. You apply at least one working day before the due date. It suits an illness that delayed you rather than one that stopped you.
This is the full application for unexpected circumstances that affected an assessment, or where you need longer than a short extension allows. Higher education students lodge it within three working days of the due date through ASKVU, with the Treating Professional Supporting Document or a medical certificate attached.
Where illness kept you from an exam, special consideration can result in a deferred sitting. The Treating Professional Supporting Document has a tick for exam impact specifically, so ask your practitioner to mark it and to cover the exam date.

See your treating professional while you are affected, and tell them the assessment type and date.
Download the Treating Professional Supporting Document and ask them to complete the relevant section, including the severity rating and the impact ticks. A medical certificate carrying the same detail is also accepted.
Check the document shows the consultation date, the period of impact, and the practitioner's registration number and signature.
Open the online special consideration form through ASKVU. VET and TAFE students submit their form to their TAFE teacher instead.
Lodge it within three working days of the assessment due date. If you cannot obtain documentation in that time, attach a statutory declaration describing your circumstances.

VU's published policy does not address consultation modality. It asks your treating professional to complete the supporting document or to supply a medical certificate. Since the page neither permits nor excludes telehealth, a certificate backed by a real consultation is the safer choice.
Higher education students apply within three working days of the assessment due date. VET students apply at least one day before the scheduled assessment. A late higher education application needs a short letter describing the exceptional circumstances that prevented a timely lodgement.
It is VU's practitioner form. The treating professional rates the impact as severe, moderate or minor, ticks which activities were affected, notes whether the condition is ongoing, and signs with their registration details. A medical certificate carrying the same detail is accepted in its place.
A short extension moves a submission date by up to three, five or ten days depending on your course structure, and is requested at least one working day before the due date. Special consideration covers unexpected circumstances that affected the assessment itself, or delays longer than an extension allows.
VU accepts a statutory declaration of half a page to one page outlining your circumstances, where you could not obtain supporting documentation from your practitioner within three days of the due date. Lodge it with the application rather than waiting.
