UNSW accepts telehealth certificates only when a real-time phone or video consultation occurred. Certificates issued from an online questionnaire alone are not accepted, and that rule applies whenever the impact or extension exceeds three days or the application relates to a final exam or timed assessment.

A short extension is an extra one to three days on an assignment or take-home task, requested through the special consideration portal before the due date. Evidence is not always required for the shortest extensions, but a dated certificate makes the request straightforward and covers you if the illness runs longer.
If illness or misadventure affects a final exam or timed assessment, apply for special consideration and attach the Professional Authority Form. UNSW requires evidence of a real-time consultation for exam-related applications, so a questionnaire-only certificate will be rejected.
When special consideration is approved for a final exam, the usual outcome is a supplementary exam in the supplementary examination period. The certificate must show you were unfit on the original exam date.

Speak to a doctor on the day you are unwell, or as soon as practical. UNSW's rules turn on the consultation being real-time, so do not rely on a questionnaire-only service.
Tell the doctor which assessments are affected and the dates. The Professional Authority Form asks for impact ratings on take-home and in-class work separately.
Receive the certificate and, where the doctor has completed it, the Professional Authority Form.
Log in to the UNSW special consideration portal through myUNSW and lodge the application within three working days of the assessment.
Attach the certificate and form, and keep the verification link handy in case UNSW contacts the practice to confirm the consultation.

Yes, with a condition. Since February 2026, UNSW accepts an online certificate only when it was issued after a real-time phone or video consultation. A certificate issued from an online questionnaire alone is refused, and that rule applies to every application involving a final exam or an impact longer than three days.
Request it through the special consideration portal before the assignment is due. Short extensions cover one to three days. For anything longer, or for an exam, lodge a full special consideration application with a certificate or Professional Authority Form attached.
It is UNSW's practitioner form. The doctor records the dates seen, rates the impact on take-home and in-class assessment, describes the condition or marks it confidential, and signs with their AHPRA details. It sits alongside, not instead of, a medical certificate.
Three working days after the assessment date or due date. Late applications need an explanation of why you could not apply in time, so book the consultation early rather than after the deadline.
UNSW states that backdated documents may be refused. A certificate is dated on the day of the consultation. If the illness started earlier, the doctor can record that period after assessing you, but the issue date does not change.
