Torrens University Australia assessment special consideration

Torrens's evidence, from a doctor who actually assesses you.

Torrens lists medical certificates and letters from registered practitioners among the acceptable documents, and does not address telehealth or the modality of the consultation. It does state that supporting documentation will not be accepted from a relative or personal friend.

Launching 19 September

Start a Torrens consult opens on 19 September. We are finishing the doctor-completed forms for every university. Bookmark this page and come back then.

What Torrens asks for

What your Torrens medical certificate must state.

Torrens has no practitioner section. The certificate carries the doctor's opinion, so what it states is what decides the outcome.

  1. 01That it comes from a registered practitioner, with their registration and practice details
  2. 02The date you were seen and the period the condition affected you
  3. 03That the condition affected your ability to complete the assessment by the due date
  4. 04A signature and the date of issue

What the same evidence is for

One consultation, three Torrens outcomes.

Students search for these by name. Torrens treats them as one process with different outcomes.

1

Torrens assessment extension of 1 to 7 days

Short extensions are requested in MyLearn under Assignments, Extension Submission. Torrens no longer requires supporting documentation for these, but it does require a detailed explanation. A dated certificate is still the clearest way to back that explanation up.

2

Torrens assessment extension of 8 to 14 days

Extensions of 8 to 14 calendar days still require documentation and are submitted through the same Assignments section in MyLearn. A medical certificate or letter from a registered practitioner covering the period is the usual evidence.

3

Torrens assessment special consideration

Where the impact runs past 14 days, use the Assessment Special Consideration Form and send it with supporting documents to your Learning Facilitator. This is the route for a longer illness that an extension cannot reasonably cover.

How to apply at Torrens

From unwell to lodged, in five steps.

DeadlineNo less than three calendar days before the assessment is due, unless unavoidable delays can be demonstrated
  1. 1

Work out how many days you need. Torrens treats 1 to 7 days, 8 to 14 days and more than 14 days as three different routes.

  2. 2

See a doctor and get a certificate covering the dates the condition affected you, unless your request is a short extension you can explain in full.

  3. 3

For 1 to 14 days, open MyLearn, go to Assignments and use Extension Submission.

  4. 4

For more than 14 days, complete the Application for Assessment Special Consideration and send it with your documents to your Learning Facilitator.

  5. 5

Lodge no less than three calendar days before the assessment is due, unless you can demonstrate an unavoidable delay.

Torrens questions

Asked the way students search them.

Answers reflect Torrens's published policy on 16 Sept 2026. Torrens decides what it accepts.

How do I apply for a Torrens assessment extension?

Use the Extension Submission option under Assignments in MyLearn. Extensions of 1 to 7 calendar days need a detailed explanation but no documentation. Extensions of 8 to 14 calendar days still require supporting documentation.

Does Torrens accept online medical certificates?

Torrens' guidance does not address telehealth or modality. It accepts medical certificates and letters from registered practitioners, and refuses documentation from a relative or personal friend. Ask your Learning Facilitator if you need the position confirmed.

What is the Torrens extension deadline?

Apply no less than three calendar days before the assessment is due, unless you can demonstrate an unavoidable delay. Leaving it to the due date makes the request harder to support.

What is Torrens assessment special consideration?

It is the route for impacts running past 14 days, where an extension is not enough. Complete the Application for Assessment Special Consideration and send it with supporting documents to your Learning Facilitator.

Do I need a medical certificate for a short Torrens extension?

Not strictly. Extensions of 1 to 7 calendar days no longer require supporting documentation, but they do require a detailed explanation. A dated certificate is the simplest way to evidence that explanation if you are asked.
