Academic consideration is Wollongong's process for reducing the impact of short-term events beyond your control on an assessment. You apply through the Student Success Portal and supply supporting documentation. The Medical Impact Statement is the form used where a medical illness or injury affected your capacity to study.
Where the assessable item is not an exam, the usual outcome is more time. The Medical Impact Statement needs start and end dates that are consistent with the extension you are asking for, because the period the doctor certifies is what the request is measured against.
The same Medical Impact Statement supports an application to vary your enrolment where a medical illness, injury or adverse experience affected your physical or mental wellbeing. It is completed by an AHPRA-registered medical practitioner. Use it when the impact runs longer than a single assessment task.

Download the Medical Impact Statement before your appointment so the practitioner completes UOW's own form.
See an AHPRA-registered medical practitioner while you are unwell, and have them state how your capacity to study was affected.
Check the form carries your name as it appears on your UOW record, the date it was signed, the AHPRA registration number, and start and end dates that cover the assessment.
Lodge the academic consideration request through the Student Success Portal and attach the statement.
Supply the evidence no later than three working days after the due date of the assessable item.
If you have no outcome after five working days, contact the Academic Consideration Support Team through AskUOW.

Academic consideration is what Wollongong calls the process other universities call special consideration. It exists to minimise the impact of short-term events beyond your control on your assessment. You apply through the Student Success Portal with supporting documentation attached.
It is the form a medical practitioner completes where illness or injury has affected your capacity to study. It must be completed by a practitioner registered with AHPRA and carries their registration number. It supports both academic consideration and enrolment variation applications.
Evidence must be provided no later than three working days after the due date of the assessable item for the request to be considered. If you have not received an outcome after more than five working days, contact the Academic Consideration Support Team through AskUOW.
Your name as it appears on your UOW record, the date the document was completed and signed, the practitioner's AHPRA registration number, the start and end dates your circumstances are covered for, and a statement from the treating doctor about the impact. Dates that do not match the assessment will undermine the request.
