Griffith University assessment application

Griffith's evidence, from a doctor who actually assesses you.

Griffith requires a medical certificate obtained during a medical consultation, such as after speaking directly with a doctor, and it maintains a list of online doctor services it accepts when the certificate follows a telehealth or video consultation. A certificate produced without a consultation does not meet the requirement.

Launching 19 September

What Griffith asks for

What your Griffith medical certificate must state.

Griffith has no practitioner section. The certificate carries the doctor's opinion, so what it states is what decides the outcome.

  1. 01That it was issued during a medical consultation in which you spoke directly with a doctor
  2. 02The date the practitioner saw you and the period your studies were affected
  3. 03The practitioner's opinion on your fitness to sit the exam or complete the assessment
  4. 04The practitioner's name, registration and practice contact details

What the same evidence is for

One consultation, three Griffith outcomes.

Students search for these by name. Griffith treats them as one process with different outcomes.

1

Griffith assignment extension

An extension moves the due date of an assessment item. Requests of up to three calendar days on most individual items go through without documentation. Anything longer needs a certificate, and the Course Convenor reviews the full period requested.

2

Griffith deferred assessment

A deferred assessment lets you sit an exam or complete a timed assessment at a later date because illness stopped you doing it when scheduled. Apply through myGriffith no later than three working days after the assessment was scheduled, and attach evidence covering that date.

3

Griffith special consideration

Special consideration applies when you attempted the assessment but illness or another circumstance outside your control affected your performance. The certificate needs to show the impact on the day you sat, so see a doctor as close to the assessment as you can.

How to apply at Griffith

From unwell to lodged, in five steps.

DeadlineExtensions before the assessment due date; deferred assessment no later than three working days after the assessment was scheduled
  1. 1

Book a consultation where you speak directly with a doctor. Griffith's requirement is about the consultation, not just the certificate.

  2. 2

Check Griffith's list of accepted online doctor services first if you are using telehealth, because a provider outside that list can be rejected before anyone reads the certificate.

  3. 3

Tell the doctor which assessment is affected and the dates, so the certificate covers the exam day or the due date.

  4. 4

Open the Assessment Application page in myGriffith and choose an extension, a deferred assessment or special consideration.

  5. 5

Attach the certificate and lodge the application: before the due date for an extension, or within three working days of a scheduled assessment for a deferral.

What your certificate carries

Facts a university can check, not claims.

Griffith questions

Asked the way students search them.

Answers reflect Griffith's published policy on 16 Sept 2026. Griffith decides what it accepts.

Does Griffith accept online medical certificates?

Only in specific conditions. Griffith requires a certificate obtained during a medical consultation in which you spoke directly with a doctor, and it keeps a list of online doctor services it accepts for telehealth or video consultations. Check that list before booking, because a certificate from an unlisted service can be refused.

How do I apply for a deferred exam at Griffith?

Use the Assessment Application page in myGriffith and lodge the deferred assessment request no later than three working days after the assessment was scheduled. Attach evidence that covers the scheduled date.

Do I need a medical certificate for a Griffith extension?

Not for a short one. Extensions of up to and including three calendar days on most individual assessment items do not require documentation. For a longer extension, attach a certificate and expect the Course Convenor to review the full period.

What is the Griffith deferred assessment deadline?

Three working days after the assessment was scheduled to take place. Some Griffith pages describe the window in calendar days, so treat the earliest reading as your deadline and lodge as soon as you can.

Will a medical certificate guarantee my Griffith application?

No. Griffith states that providing a certificate does not mean the request is automatically approved, and decisions take account of all the evidence about your circumstances. A certificate that names the dates and the impact gives the assessor what they need to decide.

Unwell before a Griffith assessment? Talk to a doctor today.

Voice pre-screening, AHPRA-registered doctor review, and a certificate that states the dates and impact Griffith asks for.
