Queensland University of Technology student academic concession

QUT's evidence, from a doctor who actually assesses you.

QUT's concession page does not address telehealth or online certificates. What it does require is that the certificate makes clear the doctor thought you were unable to study, and the Health Professional Assessment Form asks the practitioner to state whether their opinion rests on their own assessment and records or only on what the patient reported.

Launching 19 September

Start a QUT consult opens on 19 September. We are finishing the doctor-completed forms for every university. Bookmark this page and come back then.

Read QUT's rules

From 12.90 AUD, one-off. Issued on the day you are seen. Certificates carry a verification code. The form is completed only where the doctor's assessment supports it.

What QUT asks for

The Health Professional Assessment Form, line by line.

QUT's practitioner form is specific. These are the items the doctor completes after assessing you.

  1. 01That the practitioner considered you unfit for any assessment, partially fit so your load should be reduced, or able to study
  2. 02The dates you were unfit from and until, or that the condition is ongoing, and the date it worsened
  3. 03The basis of the practitioner's opinion: their own assessment and records, or what you reported to them
  4. 04Whether the condition is pre-existing or an exacerbation of an existing condition
  5. 05No diagnosis unless you have given the practitioner permission to name the condition

What the same evidence is for

One consultation, four QUT outcomes.

Students search for these by name. QUT treats them as one process with different outcomes.

1

QUT assignment extension

An extension moves the due date of an assignment when illness stops you finishing it. Apply through HiQ and upload your certificate. Keep working on the assignment while the application is assessed, because a decision can take up to five working days.

2

QUT deferred examination

A deferred exam lets you sit the paper later when illness stops you sitting it at the scheduled time. Apply through HiQ, normally within three working days of the exam date, and attach a certificate that covers the exam day itself.

3

QUT special consideration

Special consideration applies when you sat the assessment or submitted the work but your performance was affected by illness or other circumstances outside your control. The certificate needs to show the impact on the day, not just that you saw a doctor at some point.

4

QUT withdrawal without penalty

When circumstances stop you continuing a unit after the census date, you can apply to withdraw without academic or financial penalty. This is the application the Health Professional Assessment Form was written for, and it asks the practitioner for the period you were unfit and whether the condition was pre-existing.

How to apply at QUT

From unwell to lodged, in five steps.

DeadlineLodge as early as possible, normally within three working days of the assessment due date or exam date; allow up to five working days for a decision
  1. 1

See a doctor while you are unwell and tell them which assessment items are affected and on what dates.

  2. 2

Ask for a certificate that states you were unable to study over specific dates. QUT's assessors look for that statement rather than a diagnosis.

  3. 3

If you are applying to withdraw from a unit without penalty, download the Health Professional Assessment Form and have the practitioner complete it.

  4. 4

Log in to HiQ and lodge a separate application for each affected assessment item.

  5. 5

Upload a scan or photo of the certificate or form, and keep the original in case QUT asks for it.

What your certificate carries

Facts a university can check, not claims.

Every Doccy certificate links to a verification page. This is what QUT will see when it follows the QR code.

QUT questions

Asked the way students search them.

Answers reflect QUT's published policy on 16 Sept 2026. QUT decides what it accepts.

Does QUT accept online medical certificates?

QUT's published concession information does not address telehealth or online certificates. It asks that the certificate make clear the doctor thought you were unable to study, and its practitioner form asks whether the opinion rests on the doctor's own assessment or only on what you reported. A certificate that shows a genuine assessment meets that test.

What is the QUT deferred exam deadline?

Apply as early as possible, and normally within three working days of the exam date. A decision can take up to five working days, so lodging late leaves you waiting into the next assessment period.

How do I apply for a QUT assignment extension?

Lodge the application through HiQ, choose the assessment item, and upload your supporting documentation with it. Applications are not processed until the documentation arrives, so attach the certificate at the time you apply.

What is the QUT Health Professional Assessment Form?

It is the practitioner form QUT publishes for withdrawal without penalty. The health professional records whether you were unfit for all or part of your study, the dates involved, whether the condition is pre-existing or worsened, and the basis of their opinion. It is not the form for a routine extension.

Does my certificate need to name my diagnosis at QUT?

No. QUT does not want the condition named unless you have permitted the practitioner to state it. What matters is the practitioner's assessment of your capacity to study and the dates it applies to.
